Guardianship of Your Children
For most parents, their children are their most valuable asset and at a minimum all parents should prepare a will that appoints a guardian for their children in case of their passing. When drafting their will and selecting potential guardians, parents should consider the following;
· Is your choice of guardian willing to raise your children and do they have a good relationship with them?
· Does the guardian have the financial resources to raise my children or can they manage my assets on behalf of my children?
· Does the guardian have the same values as ours when it comes to raising children?
· Should we appoint a couple as co-guardians or just one member of the couple as the sole guardian?
· Is there anyone we specifically do not want to be the guardian?
You will want to discuss all of these issues with your attorney to ensure that you children are taken care in case of your passing. |
